The review for this handheld radio will be a quick one! First of all to sum up   DO NOT BUY THIS RADIO   if you are an amateur radio operator Pros: Robust construction Splash proof 10w tx power output Big battery Easy to program Cons: One timeslot Low tx power 4w Bulky Not amateur radio material Bad modulation Produces high BER even when you are 5m from the hotspot(when other radios are perfectly fine) If you want to spend money on something better go a offer the value of this radio to someone who needs them because if you buy this radio is like throughing your money to a dumpster. For some people that think that there might be a solution to the one time slot thing, there is not!!! This radio only trasmit in one time slot TS2. You cannot use it on a repeater because you will produce a mess!!! Finally this radio is not support by the DMR community so you will not find information nowhere. Even TYT says do not buy this radio if you are an amateu...

DV Mega and Raspberry Pi 3 Ok it is time at last!!!well many other sites and fellow radio amateur operators have articles for this setup but allow me to provide my view as well. First of all i must say that DV-MEGA has nothing in common with other digital hotspot devices and at this point i am refering to DV4MINI. DV-MEGA is a realiable device with no glitches using either G4KLX's DSTAR Repeater software or MMDMHost software.

I downloaded and used the free trial of this amazing SIP Server application. At first I was looking into the freepbx but I just wanted something more easily configurable and maintenance free. Also something that it would be more user friendly even to someone that is not a computer/networks expert. After looking around I came up with MYVOIPAPP that distributes the MINISIPSERVER application for windows and linux. I installed the server to a windows PC as a test and I had a VOIP system up and running within 10 minutes. Not much knowledge required as the server’s software interface is very easy and anyone with just a little bit of computing knowledge can configure it. To create extensions is also very easy! But I did not stopped there. I wanted to test the server under a linux operating system and so I did. Well I have to tell you the truth that I think that in Linux the server runs even more smoothly. Ψάχνοντας στο ιντερνετ μπόρεσα και βρήκα κάποιους αντάπτορες για να μπορέσω να συνδέσω bnc κεραίες στο antenna analyzer που έχω. Σκέφτηκα ότι πολλά ακούω και διαβάζω για τις φορητές βραχέες κεραίες ,όπως ότι δεν κάνουν τίποτα -ειδικά οι μαμίσιες-, αλλά ήθελα πραγματικά να το δώ με αποδείξεις και μετρήσεις. Έχω λοιπόν το Albrecht 2990 που είχε μια κεραιούλα μέσα, το Midland Alan 42 plus που και αυτό είχε μια κεραιούλα μέσα, και ακόμα μια κεραία που την έφερα από Hong Kong αποκλειστικά για τα 10m και φυσικά άν και πανάλφρη πολύ μεγαλύτερη από τις άλλες. Έχουμε και λέμε... Albrecht 2990 stock antenna Συντονίζει με SWR 1.2 στους 27.700Mhz, στα 10m είναι τελείως εκτός...

Μετά λοιπόν από περίπου ένα μήνα τελείωσε και αυτό το project. Η κατασκευή ενός D-STAR hotspot και repeater controller, πλήρως αυτόνομου. Θα μου πείς και γιατί δεν έπαιρνες το έτοιμο?η απάντηση είναι πολύ απλή...το κόστος. Το τελικό κόστος ανέρχεται στα περίπου 200 με 240 Ευρώ ,ανάλογα βέβαια και με πια εξτρα θέλει καποιος να βάλει. Για παράδειγμα αν κάποιος δεν θέλει LCD οθόνη και εξωτερική θύρα USB τότε το κόστος κατεβαίνει περίπου κατά 50 Ευρώ. Οπότε υπό αυτές τις συνθήκες μπορεί κάποιος να φτιάξει ένα hotspot με πολύ χαμηλό κόστος, σε σχέση πάντα με ότι έτοιμο κυκλοφορεί!!! Πριν από λίγο καιρό αποφάσισα ότι επιτέλους χρειαζόμουν ένα tnc για τις διάφορες εφαρμογές στα ψηφιακά και κυρίως για το APRS. Ψάχνοντας για κάτι οικονομικό πάντα έτσι που μας καταντήσανε έπεσα πάνω στο TNC-X. Το συγκεκριμένο tnc το έχει σχεδιάσει και το πουλάει ένας συνάδελφος από τις ΗΠΑ, ο John Hansen W2FS. To tnc δουλέυει πάντα σε KISS mode και αυτό το κάνει πρακτικό για πολλές εφαρμογές όπως APRS digi και iGATE. Επίσης συνεργάζεται άψογα και με το Raspberry Pi ,ακόμα και με USB to RS232 adapter.

After some years that i own this nice receiver from RIG(Remote Imaging Group),i decided that it's time to change the enclosure and make it more "professional".The old one was more or less a box to keep the receiver pcb in!!!

As supplied by Yaesu, the FT-817 doesn't include an antenna for HF band operation. One of the first products introduced to address this problem was the Watson ATX Walkabout antenna. This is sold by UK dealers Waters and Stanton PLC in the UK, and by MFJ in the US. The antenna is believed to be a Mizuho design, made under license for Waters and Stanton by Sandpiper Antennas in Wales. Alternatives have since appeared promising miracles, but the ATX Walkabout is still the best portable whip antenna for the 817 , as well as being the least expensive .
